Foundation of South Australia History
The Law Foundation is an Incorporated body established in
June 1985 under the provisions of the Associations
Incorporated Act 1956. Below is further information
about the Foundation's members, objectives, management,
and grants.

Objectives of the Foundation
The
objectives of the Law Foundation of South Australia
incorporated are:

(a)
|
To
promote or undertake legal research which in the
opinion of the Foundation may be of value in the
reform of law.
|
|
|
(b)
|
To
promote and provide legal education including the
education and training of legal practitioners and
persons employed by legal practitioners.
|
|
|
(c)
|
To
promote or undertake community education in law and
the legal system, including programs in schools.
|
|
|
(d)
|
To
communicate to legal practitioners and other persons,
information on the law and matters relating to the
law.
|
|
|
(e)
|
To
publish, subsidise or otherwise assist in the
publication of materials relating to, resulting from
or connected with carrying out the objects of the
Foundation.
|
|
|
(f)
|
To
provide legal services to the community or a section
of the community.
|
|
|
(g)
|
To
do anything incidental or conducive to the carrying
out of the foregoing objectives.
|
Management
of
the Foundation
The management of the Foundation was
vested, by its Constitution, in the following
persons:-
|
|
A
Judge of either the South Australian Supreme Court or
the Federal Court of Australia appointed by the
Attorney-General for the time being of the State of
South Australia.
|
|
|
Three
persons appointed by the Attorney-General for the time
being of the State of South Australia.
|
|
|
Three
persons appointed by the Law Society of South
Australia.
|
|
|
The
Dean for the time being of the Faculty of Law of the
University of Adelaide or his appointee.
|
|
|
The
Dean for the time being of the School of Law of the
Flinders University of South Australia or the Dean's
appointee.
|

The Dean for the time being of the School of Law of the University of South Australia or the Dean's appointee. |
Grants
Information
Applications
for grants are invited half-yearly with the closing dates
being 30th September, and 31st March, of each year. In
considering applications, the Foundation has regard to the
published guidelines as well as to the following further
matters:

(a)
|
in
general, it does not favour the making of grants to
individual applicants where the predominant purpose is
one of advancing the interests of the applicant, as
opposed to the interest of the community generally;
|
|
|
(b)
|
that
is does not favour the practice of making funds available
to existing projects or where other sources of
funding might be available;
|
|
|
(c)
|
that
it does not favour the making of grants for
substantial capital expenditure or the funding of the
employment.
